What is our mission The Foundation will use funds to support and broaden classroom instruction programs by purchasing classroom equipment and supplies, enabling teacher training, facilitating special enrichment activities, encouraging field trips, sending 5th graders to science camp, etc. Fostering appreciation of the arts and promoting greater inclusion for the largely Latino and English Language Learner population served by the school are key interests of the Foundation, as is enabling Horace Mann become the first California Distinguished School in the downtown area. The Foundation is responsible to the Horace Mann School community, and everyone in the community is welcome to participate actively in Foundation activities. The Foundation especially encourages participation by downtown San Jose residents, downtown businesses and their workers, SJSU faculty, employees and students, and employees of the new Civic Center and other government offices, who together form the core of the downtown community.
